Board Meeting Minutes 11.9.09

1. Homecoming Food

Tuesday turn in forms for reimbursement (MinCo) from cooking and grill

Gary will get in touch with VISTA about tailgating-sharing

Complementary food, perhaps carne asada, but definitely not Korean beef tacos

Greg get Gary the Korean beef quota

Subgroup reps figure out what each subgroup is bringing, food-wise

2. Dining Services

Gary needs recipes. Only got 6 from Susan+IC and 6 from KOW rep.

People who haven’t sent in recipes, do it.
Rice cookers coming sometime next week, in theory.

But Makisha asserts that Greylock had rice cookers + basmati rice as of last week

3. NRC (neighborhood review) at MinCo meeting

Greg: harder to recruit freshmen when they are clumped together in Mission, Frosh Quad, and with frosh highly involved in frosh events

Makisha: Baxter Fellows don’t do their jobs, neighborhood events are annoying, I feel no neighborhood spirit, can’t live with who I want to live with

All general concerns, not necessarily AASiA or minority concerns

Whoever speaks at MinCo tomorrow – read the report

4. Comments for the new President at MinCo meeting

Continue Lunar New Year dinners

Be more fair about selecting Lunar New Year dinner invitees

More Asian-related courses

Make it easier for people to study abroad without worrying about credit

Currently less than 10 classes

Professors Reinhardt, Yu on maternity leave, took away history & culture classes

Particularly more classes on Southeast Asia cultures (only 2 classes now)

5. International students & Thanksgiving break

Support IC’s efforts to find Thanksgiving housing for people who need a place to stay

Be considerate about culture clash (have Asian houses matched to Asian students)

6. Tasha’s Faculty Talks

Last Friday, low attendance. 4 board and 1 non-board

Opportunity to try again 11/20 next week or 12/4 first Friday of December

More publicity

Tasha coordinate Professor Siniawer’s appearance and choose a lecture topic

11:45am-1:00pm

7. Vincent Chin event

Supposedly this Thursday. Push back to allow more time for publicity?

DVD is here, but Seohee says it will be put in general circulation post 11/12

Postponed for 12/3

More effort on poster posting and Daily Messages

Have Professor Wong (Susan) tell his Asian American History class

Post posters everywhere (Susan over Thanksgiving break)

Back-up venues: Hopkins basement, a classroom, Bronfman auditorium

Ask professors to let us put a publicity message on the chalkboards (Susan)

7pm-9pm

8. Next Game Night Postponed

9. Furniture

Gary make Justin move out the bball hoop
